“Humans should be made indestructible,” he said. “We should be made to rise like unstoppable fire, growing stronger and mightier, moving only upwards until we die.”
“Humans need not be indestructible,” she said. “They need only to be eternal, to fly on everlasting wings, to have an infinite amount of time”.
And his was a staircase that went only downwards, and he fell down it backwards, and he bruised himself on every step, and he never regained a single inch of what he lost.
And hers was a dreamless sleep, devoid of color and pain and joy. And all of life was a single moment,
repeated over again and over again.
